“Domestic sales of scooters have surged as budget- and environment-minded consumers look for relief from high pump prices and as more-appealing models come on the market”. They report that “scooters with engine sizes of 150ccs or less…jumped some 200% to 48,000 by 2004 from about 16,000 in 1999, and they continue to rise, According to the New York Times - MIC (Motorcycle Industry Council) analysts say U.S. scooter sales rose to 84,000 last year, up from 12,000 in 1997. They are projecting a 20 percent increase in scooter sales for 2004, up to 100,800. By Brokenspoke - Tuesday, October 20, 2009 - View Full Newsletter

florida Motorcycle crashes and injuries raise as motorcycle sales plummet Even though motorcycle sales are down 46%, Florida Motorcycle crashes and injuries are climbing. Is the Florida Rider Training Program doing it's job? We question the effectiveness of the mandatory motorcycle training in Florida. The MSF course has proven to be ineffective, and we appear to be suffering from it's affect. Motorcycle Crashes and Injuries climb in 2008 Motorcycle crashes are up 4.49% and injuries are up and still climbing. Most dramatically, injuries for motorcycle passengers are up 14.80%. Although overall fatalities are down 7%, motorcyclist fatlities are only down 2%. Bike week Magazine calls for a independant study to determine if the Florida Rider Training program is working. So far the results appear grim.
