Urwerk Amadeus UR-210 watch hands-on

In the world of independent watchmaking, URWERK is undoubtedly one of the boldest and most creative. The brand is known for its iconic satellite system to display time, but at least for the past few years Urwerk UR-210 replica watches， they have also been exploring novel and interesting ways to decorate their existing models. The efficiency indicator is used to show the difference between the energy consumed in the past two hours and the energy produced by the mainspring. Not only that, the UR-210 also includes an adjustment mechanism on the back of the case, allowing you to change the efficiency of the rotor. There are three modes: Full, Reduce and Stop. In the deceleration mode, the air turbine compressor reduces the speed of the rotor, which slows down the winding of the mainspring. In the "Stop" mode, the rotor is completely disengaged and does not wind at all.

The engravings on the Amadeus UR-210 are inspired by an ancient clock from the 18th century, which was given by Felix Baumgartner, co-founder of Urwerk. This was one of the first collectors' works that Baumgartner's father gave him, and therefore held a special place in his mind. The clock is the heart of Urwerk's workshop. Its exquisite gold-plating process is done in pure Baroque style, so it stands out.

According to Urwerk, the name Amadeus comes from the legendary composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart was an outstanding composer of the 18th century. Baumgartner read Mozart's biography, calling him a pioneer of punk subculture and a rebel at the time. Baumgartner said Urwerk shares the same spirit as Mozart, hence the name Amadeus. This may sound a little faint, but hey, Amadeus does put a good name on the watch.

To reproduce the look and feel of this ancient timepiece in a UR-210 watch, Urwerk turned to the famous craftsman Florian Güllert, who carved the pattern by hand on the Amadeus UR-210. Güllert believes that the flowing pattern of rat leaves is best suited for the UR-210's angular case, and he carefully designed the entire pattern to make the carved pattern flow seamlessly from the case to the bracelet. Physically, the watch looks great. It's almost like holding an 18th-century artwork in your hand. The details of the engraving are very complicated, and it is even more incredible when you remember that most of the engraving is actually processed in steel. Steel is a relatively hard metal, and its material is much harder than gold.

However, this case is only part of the story. There is no doubt that the case is gorgeous-it looks like it was dug or discovered at an archeological site-and then you look at the dial and you see a very modern and technically complex satellite and gear system. It looks completely different from a regular watch, and in my opinion this dichotomy makes the Urwerk Amadeus UR-210 very attractive.

The dial is a classic Urwerk. The hours on the dial are displayed by a series of rotating satellites, while the minutes are displayed on a retrograde scale. It may be complicated, but it is actually easy to read. For example, in the photo above, the time is 8:18. Inside the movement is Urwerk movement UR-7.10. This is the same movement that powers other models of the UR-210 watch. It beats at 4Hz and has a power reserve of about 39 hours. With no sapphire caseback, you can't see many movements exactly, but you can see many satellite systems from the dial side. The movement perfectly combines circular and ruled satin sanding, sandblasting, pearl cotton and circular textures. The overall look and feel of the movement is best described by technology, which is in line with the spirit of the movement itself, but contradicts the fine carving on the case.

I think this is the appeal of this watch. This is a mashup of two distinct styles from two distinct times. Despite this contrast in style, at least for me, the end result is tempting and compelling. Of course, it is bold, different, and like many other bold and different things in life, not everyone appreciates it. I can definitely see someone criticizing it, saying that the mix of styles is inconsistent and incompatible, and they make sense.
